LD Products's Commitment to the Environment
LD Products's mission is high quality, low impact. It is our responsibility to provide the highest quality remanufactured printer cartridges on the market to our customers, but we also have a debt to pay to the environment. Every company has a footprint, and at LD Products, we take our obligation to reduce our impact on the earth very seriously. With several initiatives in place for reducing waste, the use of nonrenewable resources, and energy, we are helping repay our debt to the planet and creating a healthier environment for all of us.
The Impact of Printer Cartridges on the Environment
Ninety percent of ink and toner cartridges are recyclable. This is the good news. The bad news is that 80 percent are thrown away. Americans discard more than 300 million ink cartridges every year. You wouldn't throw money in a landfill, nor would you pour oil, but that is what we are doing when we throw away printer cartridges. We waste over $450 million and 4.7 million gallons of petroleum. Millions of tax dollars that are used for landfill management are literally thrown away. In addition, ink, toner, and chemical additives filter into our water supply, and the plastic and metal used to construct the cartridges do not degrade. The impact is devastating to both to our budgets and our planet.
What Does This Mean for the Earth?
Discarding printer cartridges results in a tremendous amount of waste. We are wasting energy, nonrenewable resources, money, and the opportunity to make a positive impact on the environment.
The remanufacturing of ink and toner cartridges provides a significant reduction of waste and pollution, and this is only the beginning of our efforts to reduce our impact on the environment. We seek to make every aspect of our business more energy-efficient and eco-conscious.
Every master carton that is used for our printer cartridges is recycled. Our onsite cardboard recycling compactor makes this a more efficient, streamlined process. In addition, LD Products's packaging paper is made of 50 to 60 percent post-consumer industrial fiber.
Instead of non-recyclable foam peanuts, we use compacted heavy paper to package our cartridges. Not only is the paper completely recyclable, it is made from 100 percent recycled paper. In addition, our packaging envelopes are made from post-industrial Kraft plastics.
We swapped our call center and warehouse lighting and 20 year old air conditioning unit with energy-efficient systems. The addition of energy efficient light fixtures and ballasts alone reduced our energy consumption by 30 percent.
Recycling your ink and toner cartridges is not only the best choice, it can be the easiest. We not only encourage our customers to recycle, we make it more convenient by providing pre-paid return bags for empty cartridges.
