We always use the Seventh Generation Auto Dish Powder, which works great and is very affordable. We received the Seventh Generation Auto Dish Packs for free in exchange for an honest review. I'm glad we got to try them out! I would consider the dish packs to be an acceptable option for the dishwasher. It is "natural," leaves no funky smells, and cleans the dishes pretty well. It might be a nice option for those who like the convenience of a pack, as opposed to pouring out powder or soap/gel, or for a family in which children might be helping to start the dish washer (and don't regulate the amount of soap/gel poured in too well yet). It might be a nice option for traveling (as when one stays in an airbnb place where there is a dishwasher available); carrying little packs as opposed to loose powder is much more appealing. We did notice that the first time we used the packs there was a residue left on the dishes (kind of powdery-feeling :P ) and a slight smell (not a chemical scent, but a slight "ick" smell, though I will admit that I am very particular about scents in our home ;) ). That initially turned me off from the packs, but we kept trying them out, and by the second or third pack and dishwasher cycle we went through, our clean dishes emerged from the dishwasher; they once again looked similar to how they come out when we have used the powder. I honestly will probably not buy these packs often, because the powder seems much more affordable (I think it's nearly $5 cheaper for more product) and is not difficult to use. But it is nice to know there are other "safe" options available for our beloved household appliance, the dishwasher. ;) .

I was really excited to get a free bag of dish packs from seventh generation to try for free, and especially excited after reading reviews of the item. The first use was not great. There was white film left on my son's bottles and nipples. The next 2 uses also left film on the baby stuff, though there was no visible film or anything on the regular dishes and glasses. Just anything plastic. Then some water spilled on the counter, and got the plastic packaging the packs are in wet. No water in the bag itself. He heard a loud fizzing and finally saw that the rest of the packs were fizzing. No water got dropped into the bag. Why would the bottom of the bag NOT be water tight? Everyone I know stores their detergent on the counter by the sink. The photo shows the aftermath of the packs. I managed to cut the usable ones away. I would not recommend these packs unless you plan on storing them completely away from the sink and placed into a bowl in case a soil should happen. And if you are washing plastic, such as bottles or Rubbermaid (and even silicone), I also do not recommend this. On the other hand, it works pretty good for pots, pans, porcelain, and glasses.

I was given a sample of these from seventh generation and have since purchases them on my own. My dishes come out spotless which I did not always find the case with other brands tabs. I love the mission behind seventh generation and this is another product I will continue to use of theirs.

Naturally Clean Dishes

Comments about Seventh Generation Natural Dishwashing Detergent Pac - 20 per pack:

I received a sample of this product for review. When I review product I give my honest opinion because it does not help the consumer if I don't! These Seventh Generation dishwasher packs are fantastic! They leave my dishes more sparkling than the other well known brand I have used for years! There are also less spots and cloudy residue left behind. (I have yet to discover a product that truly leaves zero spots!) I just love that the transition we are making to a more natural lifestyle will be so much easier with Seventh Generation products!

Agree - plasticware has some sort of residue

By rachelw

Comments about Seventh Generation Natural Dishwashing Detergent Pac - 20 per pack:

I must have used the yellow packaging before - the blue packaging leaves all of my plasticware covered in a cloudy film with an odd smell. Washing it by hand takes a while to get it off!

Comments about Seventh Generation Natural Dishwashing Detergent Pac - 20 per pack:

I got these about a month ago and since we only do dishes once a week I wanted to try a full month before reviewing. These were great! My dishes were clean and no after smell that some detergents leave behind in the dish washer. Will be using these from now on.

No messs detergent packs!

By Megha86

Comments about Seventh Generation Natural Dishwashing Detergent Pac - 20 per pack:

I received this product as a sample from seventh generation and I was really impressed with its quality. There's no mess at all while putting it in the dishwasher and moreover it cleans all the vessels really well with just 1 pack without leaving any stains. The only thing I disliked is the price which I find it a lil pricey considering there are just 20 packs.

Great Product!

By TeacherTN

Comments about Seventh Generation Natural Dishwashing Detergent Pac - 20 per pack:

These dishwashing packs work great! Simply remember to use a rinse aid; I invested in the Seventh Generation rinse aid myself. Without it, these packs can indeed leave white blotches. The reason is because many commercial brands contain rinse aids in the packs themselves; I finally refilled my rinse aid compartment manually in the dishwasher, and now these packs are working 10x better than a supppsedly-powerful synthetic-based brand I had to use for awhile. Make sure to fill up your dishwasher's rinse aid compartmemt (the Seventh Generation rinse aid is outstanding, it's on Grove Collaboration) and these packs will be the best that you can find! With much safer ingredients to boot!

Powerful Clean & Fragrance Free!

By Jenna85

from Michigan, United States

Comments about Seventh Generation Natural Dishwashing Detergent Pac - 20 per pack:

These dishwasher packs are every bit of a powerful clean! I expect a lot of my dishwasher cleaner, and these packs delivered! In the past we've had problems with our clean dishes having a gross smelling odor to them occasionally. Since these SG packs were listed as fragrance free I wasn't sure what to expect. Would that help? Make it worse? Leave my dishes not smelling clean at all? No! My dishes come out clean without any bad odor! I am so beyond pleased with how these have worked for me! I received a free product for testing, but my opinions in this review are my own.

Cartridge Comparison Guide
  • Cartridge Types
  • Ink & Toner Basics
  • Number of Pages & Shelf Life
Cartridge Type
Genuine or OEM (Original) Cartridges Remanufactured Cartridges Compatible Cartridges
Description OEM stands for original equipment manufacturer, meaning the cartridge was made by the same company that made your printer. Original brand cartridges are very reliable and sometimes the only option if your printer is new to market or uncommon. Remanufactured ink is a genuine brand cartridge that has gone through one cycle of use. After use, the cartridge is recycled, acquired by a remanufacturing facility and put through a rigorous professional refurbishing process. During the refurbishing process the cartridge is disassembled, thoroughly cleaned and tested for quality. It's then carefully refilled, tested again and brought back to life. Buying remanufactured prevents one less cartridge from ending up in a landfill. A compatible cartridge is a brand new ink cartridge built by a manufacturer other than your printer. It's like buying the generic version of the genuine brand. Most are uniquely designed to differentiate from genuine cartridges. Despite any structural difference you may notice, the cartridge will still fit in your machine and print a full yield, just like the original brand.
Price Factors Many printer manufacturers follow the razor-and-blades business model which may result in higher priced genuine cartridges. Remanufactured ink is much cheaper than the original brand ink. It's far more cost effective to refurbish a previously used cartridge than create a new OEM from scratch. Compatible ink is much cheaper than the original brand. Compatible suppliers don't have to worry about the additional costs that hinder OEMs like new printers or firmware, which lets them keep prices low.
Quality Original cartridges work extremely well and are covered under a warranty by the printer manufacturer High quality remanufactured ink will match the quality of the original, but not all remanufactured ink is created equal. Make sure you buy from a reputable supplier in order to get the absolute best results. High quality compatible ink will match the quality of the original, but not all compatible ink is created equal. Make sure you buy from a reputable supplier in order to get the absolute best results.
What's the difference between ink and toner cartridges?
Ink Cartridges Toner Cartridges
Printer Type Work with inkjet printers Work with laser printers
Material Liquid ink Dry powder
How it works Inkjet printers use a series of nozzles that spray tiny drops of ink directly on the print suface Laser toner printers use static electricity and heat to bond dry toner powder to a page
Commonly used by Casual home users, small business and photographers Large businesses and schools
Number of Pages You Can Print A cartridge's page yield is the estimated number of pages you can print. Page yield is based on 5% page coverage. This means that the quoted page yield is based upon printed pages where only 5% of the page has been imprinted with ink. For example, a short memo has approximately 5% coverage. If you have a cartridge that has a yield of 500 pages, it can print 500 pages of that short memo. If you are printing letters, photos or graphics, your coverage will vary greatly and your page yield will drop significantly.
Cartridge Warranty and Shelf Life Most ink and toner cartridges include a warranty or "best by" date on their box. Remanufactured and compatible ink cartridges can last 12-18 months unopened, and toner cartridges can last up to 3 years.
Cartridge Care and Storage Only open a cartridge when you need it. Opened cartridges will eventually dry out, especially if the protective tape or clip has been removed. If you have an open ink cartridge around and would like to try and prevent it from drying out, place it nozzle side up in a plastic airtight tub. If your cartridge came with protective tape or a clip reapply both before storing. Place a damp cloth or paper towel in the tub, next to the cartridge and keep it stored in a cool, dark place.
