I heard the Sony HT-CT550W in the store the other day and I was amazed. To me, the HTCT550W Sony Sound Bar is a technological marvel. It's a slim 2.1 sound bar that behaves like a 5.1 system. It processes all the latest multichannel sound fields and has a wireless sub woofer that I can move around my room as I please. Not only does it produce very strong volume and deep bass--the sub woofer really woofs. Also, I was really impressed at how this sound bar produces surround sound from my favorite bluray movies. I can't believe how much better this system is than my old CT350 Sound Bar ( I thought the CT350 was very good) Well I ended up giving my CT350 to my kids and I kept the HT-CT550W for myself.

I purchased this unit hoping it would replace a home theater receiver, but found the limitations too great. I was pairing this with a Sony Bravia TV, using the HDMI interfaces. I found the HDMI audio to be 1 second delayed with only 1 adjustment option on the amplifier for 'Sync Video'. Setting this option to 1 caused the audio to be 2 seconds out of sync, instead of 1. When using the HDMI and ARC #Audio Return Channel# feature of the HDMI, this was more prevalent. If I was using the TOS interface, I did not notice the delay problem, but lost the auto switching ability, and have extra cables. In addition, when using the ARC, almost all the audio options are disabled in the TV, relying on the audio controls of the AV system, which are sub-par in the the CT550W. They're ok, but not great. According to the manual, the system would choose the correct sound field automatically, but all I saw was 'standard', and rarely liked the sound field. #IE: Playing Pandora should be 2Ch Stereo, while Netflix should Probably be movie, but if using ARC, this is not changeable by the user# Using TOS, the TV provides the options, but disables the auto speaker disable, resulting in a very poor audio echo if the TV speakers were not muted.

SIMPLY THE BEST FOR THE $$$

Comments about Sony Surround Sound Bar System:

I'm one of those guys that does months worth of research before buying something and boy, I'm glad I did. This unit sounds a looks like units double the price with more tech features, inputs, and support than anything else out there on the market. The sound on sports is fantastic, music thumps and provides monstrous bass and tight clear highs, and movies sound better than most theaters. You will no be disappointed whatsoever!

Sound is good but HDMI functionality is weak

By BML23

Comments about Sony Surround Sound Bar System:

I bought this mainly because it has an HDMI pass through for connecting all of my other components. The HDMI functionality was disappointing though. It takes more than 10 seconds switching between HDMI inputs before the video appears on the TV screen, and sometimes it doesn't show up at all. I have to turn everything off and start all over for the video to come up. On the plus side, the bluetooth works well at closer ranges and the sound is pretty good.

Comments about Sony Surround Sound Bar System:

I read a ton of reviews and ultimately decided to go with this sound bar and I am not disappointed at all. It does exactly what it is designed to do. It's not a home theatre system, it's a sound bar and a good one for the money.

So glad i finally purchased a soundbar, so worth it. The Sony is perfect for our condo, plenty of power and bass to really fill the room and great sound at low levels. Simple and convenient with all the basic features one needs.

Nice Sound Bar!

By JerryS

Comments about Sony Surround Sound Bar System:

It looks nice and generally works well. I like the bluetooth feature, although I don't use it much. I like the feature that you can set it up to turn on and off automatically with the TV, although I seem to have trouble getting this to stay activated. My biggest complaint and disappointment is the limited volume. It is "almost enough" volume at full setting, but I expected it to be "more than enough", so I would NEVER use full volume. That isn't true and I am really not satisfied for that reason. If I had it to do again, I would shop for something with more volume.

Not too shabby at all!

Comments about Sony Surround Sound Bar System:

Bought this bad boy a month ago and I don't think I could be happier. Much better than the sound coming out of the TV and the wireless sub is a bonus. I run a gaming system and cable through it and have had no issues. Great job Sony!

Twice as lucky the second time.

By giddyup

Comments about Sony Surround Sound Bar System:

After purchasing the HTST7 for our main living room I was looking for a less expensive alternative for our basement TV room. Given I had such a positive experience with the 7.1 surround version of the Sony soundbar I figured I would look at the less expensive alternative. I did my typical research on top selling soundbars and subsequently went to the local electronic store to listen to the quality. We have a 60" sony smart Tv so I was thinking I needed something large despite the relatively small space in the basement. After much deliberation I settled on the HT-CT770. I loved the look and simplicity of the wall mount application. Being a former employee of a top manufacturer of speakers I have relatively high end tatse when it comes to being impressed. After plugging in the soundbar and getting it setup (all of 10 minutes) I was simply amazed by the quality of sound! I immediately played some old favorite moves, sound tracks and was immediately impressed. After 2 hours of sitting on the floor being totally immersed in my experience, I decided I would write my first ever review and thank Sony for this wonderful product.

Comments about Sony Surround Sound Bar System:

The Sony Sound Bar met all of my requirements including excellent sound with a wireless subwoofer, HDMI ports on the sound bar that eliminate to the need for me to get behind the TV when, for example, I want to connect a computer. Did a lot of research prior and overall very satisfied with this product.

Great sound

By Boarman

from 35114

Comments about Sony Surround Sound Bar System:

I purchased the Sony sound bar and woofer to enrich the sound of my dvd/cd/blueray player. I have found that it works great for hdtv as well. The only shortcoming is using the remote. I have to move to where I can point the remote for the sound bar to respond. Other than that it is easy to program and enhancing the sound and makes listening and viewing my dvd player and tv much more enjoyable.

Cartridge Comparison Guide
  • Cartridge Types
  • Ink & Toner Basics
  • Number of Pages & Shelf Life
Cartridge Type
Genuine or OEM (Original) Cartridges Remanufactured Cartridges Compatible Cartridges
Description OEM stands for original equipment manufacturer, meaning the cartridge was made by the same company that made your printer. Original brand cartridges are very reliable and sometimes the only option if your printer is new to market or uncommon. Remanufactured ink is a genuine brand cartridge that has gone through one cycle of use. After use, the cartridge is recycled, acquired by a remanufacturing facility and put through a rigorous professional refurbishing process. During the refurbishing process the cartridge is disassembled, thoroughly cleaned and tested for quality. It's then carefully refilled, tested again and brought back to life. Buying remanufactured prevents one less cartridge from ending up in a landfill. A compatible cartridge is a brand new ink cartridge built by a manufacturer other than your printer. It's like buying the generic version of the genuine brand. Most are uniquely designed to differentiate from genuine cartridges. Despite any structural difference you may notice, the cartridge will still fit in your machine and print a full yield, just like the original brand.
Price Factors Many printer manufacturers follow the razor-and-blades business model which may result in higher priced genuine cartridges. Remanufactured ink is much cheaper than the original brand ink. It's far more cost effective to refurbish a previously used cartridge than create a new OEM from scratch. Compatible ink is much cheaper than the original brand. Compatible suppliers don't have to worry about the additional costs that hinder OEMs like new printers or firmware, which lets them keep prices low.
Quality Original cartridges work extremely well and are covered under a warranty by the printer manufacturer High quality remanufactured ink will match the quality of the original, but not all remanufactured ink is created equal. Make sure you buy from a reputable supplier in order to get the absolute best results. High quality compatible ink will match the quality of the original, but not all compatible ink is created equal. Make sure you buy from a reputable supplier in order to get the absolute best results.
What's the difference between ink and toner cartridges?
Ink Cartridges Toner Cartridges
Printer Type Work with inkjet printers Work with laser printers
Material Liquid ink Dry powder
How it works Inkjet printers use a series of nozzles that spray tiny drops of ink directly on the print suface Laser toner printers use static electricity and heat to bond dry toner powder to a page
Commonly used by Casual home users, small business and photographers Large businesses and schools
Number of Pages You Can Print A cartridge's page yield is the estimated number of pages you can print. Page yield is based on 5% page coverage. This means that the quoted page yield is based upon printed pages where only 5% of the page has been imprinted with ink. For example, a short memo has approximately 5% coverage. If you have a cartridge that has a yield of 500 pages, it can print 500 pages of that short memo. If you are printing letters, photos or graphics, your coverage will vary greatly and your page yield will drop significantly.
Cartridge Warranty and Shelf Life Most ink and toner cartridges include a warranty or "best by" date on their box. Remanufactured and compatible ink cartridges can last 12-18 months unopened, and toner cartridges can last up to 3 years.
Cartridge Care and Storage Only open a cartridge when you need it. Opened cartridges will eventually dry out, especially if the protective tape or clip has been removed. If you have an open ink cartridge around and would like to try and prevent it from drying out, place it nozzle side up in a plastic airtight tub. If your cartridge came with protective tape or a clip reapply both before storing. Place a damp cloth or paper towel in the tub, next to the cartridge and keep it stored in a cool, dark place.
