A firmware\u00a0update released by HP\u00ae last month stopped non-HP cartridges from working in a number of their OfficeJet\u00ae, OfficeJet Pro\u00ae\u00a0and OfficeJet Pro X\u00ae printers.\u00a0 So many customers were unhappy\u00a0with the unexpected update that HP responded<\/a>, announcing that they would be releasing a new firmware update to remedy the issue.\u00a0 The new update finally arrived on October 12th<\/sup> and LD Products can confirm that it does, once again, let you use non-HP cartridges in a previously affected printer.\u00a0 The update is only available on HP\u2019s website and must be downloaded and installed by the user in order to work.\u00a0 If your printer was affected and you want to continue using non-HP cartridges, visit the HP Customer Support page<\/a> to find and download the corresponding update.<\/p>\n

LD Products successfully ran the new update on an affected HP OfficeJet Pro 6830<\/a>.\u00a0 If you\u2019ve downloaded the appropriate update for your printer, follow these steps to properly install it on your machine:<\/p>\n

  1. Turn on your printer and make sure it is connected. If the following error shows up on the printer\u2019s display, press \u201cOK\u201d to close it.\"Step<\/a><\/li>\n
  2. Run the downloaded firmware file. It will search for the printer and list it by its serial number.\"step-2\"<\/a><\/li>\n
  3. Select the checkbox next to the printer and click \u201cUpdate\u201d. This will start the update process\u2026\"step-3\"<\/a><\/li>\n
  4. The printer\u2019s screen will show the update in progress…\"step-4\"<\/a><\/li>\n
  5. The printer will restart once the update is finished and confirm that the installation is complete.\"step-5\"<\/a><\/li>\n
  6. A notice will display stating that the installed cartridge is a non-HP cartridge. This is normal and you can bypass this message by pressing \u201cOK\u201d.\"step-6\"<\/a><\/li>\n
  7. The ink levels will properly display on your printer and you should be able to print properly.\"step-7\"<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
