FrogTape is a special painting tape that is treated with PaintBlock technology for professional results on baseboards, crown moldings, door/window frames and much more. PaintBlock seals the tape edges for sharp lines. This super-absorbent polymer reacts with latex paint and instantly gels to form a micro-barrier to seal the edges of the tape and prevent tape bleed. Medium-adhesion painters tape is designed for use on cured painted walls, wood trim, glass and metal. Multisurface FrogTape will remove cleanly from most surfaces for up to 21 days and seven days in direct sunlight.

I'm an avid woodworker, but have to admit that although I thoroughly enjoy the design and build aspect of my projects, I really don't enjoy the "finishing" part. It's a lot of tedious work, especially when you're critical of your own work, and no matter how many hours you put into the build, a slight mistake in the finishing part will haunt you for years. That's where the Frog Tape comes in. I've used what I thought was good tape for years, but have never really been overly impressed with the result and still found myself having to fix the spots that bleed. I've seen the Frog Tape on store shelves for a while now but honestly thought "why bother, how can it be better". I decided to give it a shot and so happy I did. I made a set of Baggo boards this weekend, and for the finish, decided to go with two colors of stain and a paint, meaning my lines really need to be perfect to make it come together. The fact that they go as far as to sell the tape in a protective case is just brilliant!!! Tape that is left out will inevitably pick up dust, lint and nicks right on the edges which is the most important part of this type of tape!!! My lines transitioning from natural stain, to white paint, to dark walnut stain are just perfect, and I couldn't be happier with how my boards turned out. When I peeled the tape off, not only was there absolutely NO bleeding spots, there was also no trace of residue from the tape adhesive! I'm a Frog Tape convert and would highly recommend this to anybody and everybody that wants a perfect line every time.

Honestly, I had higher expectations of this product. Considering that I had to pay twice that of the blue painters tape. Now, I've so far painted one bathroom with just the blue tape which turned out horrible. Not only did the blue tape take the paint off the wall, it let paint seep under the tape as well as the tape would not come off on some parts of the baseboard and it took some paint off the wall. Going back to the store, I picked up Frogtape multi-surface for the bigger bathroom. I was pretty excited that it had a Patent against "paintblock" since that was one of my biggest issues in the smaller bathroom. I was even more diligent when applying this tape. I pushed down multiple times with sharp edge against the areas (I wanted the tape to stick completely to the surfaces). I also was very carefully when painting near the tape. I was much less heavy handed around the trim and used an artist brush which is one inch wide to paint with. This took 10x longer to paint around the trim but I did not want to have to go over all the baseboards again with a razor blade scrapping like I did in the first bathroom which took just as long to scrape as it did to paint that bathroom. When I removed the frogtape, I was pretty disgusted with the results. I honestly expected NO paint seeping under the tap. But in most areas (not all) on the baseboard the frogtape let paint seep underneath which now I'm going to have to go back over and scrap with a razor blade or paint over it. Only positive note I have for the product that it did not leave any paint around the door frame which sadly is only 10% surface area that I had adhered the tape to. I do not recommend this product because its twice the price of its competitors and its patent for Paintblock only worked 10% of the area in the room. Had frogtape stood up to its claims of paintblocking, I would have gladly paid three times that of the blue tape. Sadly, I'm now going to be spending a lot more time than I really wanted fixing the baseboards in this bathroom. I will also have to find another solution for taping the next room I decide to paint in the house. I'm hoping that may be I got a bad batch of tape but I'm not willing to go buy another roll to find that out.

Waste of money

Comments about FrogTape Multi Surface Painter Tape - 1 per roll:

We decided to splurg on this tape for a project that required sharp, clean lines and were incredibly disappointed. More areas bled through than didn't. Wish we had just bought regular painters tape instead of wasting our money on this scam of a product.

No crisp lines at all

By LindaH

Comments about FrogTape Multi Surface Painter Tape - 1 per roll:

This stuff is horrible. I used it several years ago when I painted my living room and literally had HOURS of repair work to do after I pulled off the tape. Did not make crisp lines at all. I called the FrogTape people, and they said it was my fault--didn't follow the directions. Yeah, whatever--the "directions" they specifically mentioned were not listed anywhere on the container. Since years had passed, I thought I'd give it another try since I was doing a job that required extremely straight, crisp lines with no raggedy edges. My daughter drew a cityscape on our bathroom wall, so I used the frogtape around the edge before I painted it. Out of the entire bathroom wall, there was only one 3" line that was crisp. The rest looks AWFUL. No idea how I'm going to fix this. Probably have to paint over the whole thing. Argh. NEVER USING THIS PRODUCT AGAIN, AND WOULD DEFINITELY NOT NOT NOT RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE.

Horrible Product

Comments about FrogTape Multi Surface Painter Tape - 1 per roll:

Buyers beware, this product is horrible. My husband just painted the ceiling in our baby's room 2 weeks ago. Used this tape when painting the walls today and when he removed the tape it peeled off the paint on the freshly painted ceiling. I honestly don't know how they can still be selling this product. Don't buy, you will regret!!

We used this tape when painting a boat, we assured the tape was properly stuck down and we ended up with about 50% of the taped areas having serious paint bleed. Make a lot more work and gave very poor results! Would not recommend this product

Cartridge Comparison Guide
  • Cartridge Types
  • Ink & Toner Basics
  • Number of Pages & Shelf Life
Cartridge Type
Genuine or OEM (Original) Cartridges Remanufactured Cartridges Compatible Cartridges
Description OEM stands for original equipment manufacturer, meaning the cartridge was made by the same company that made your printer. Original brand cartridges are very reliable and sometimes the only option if your printer is new to market or uncommon. Remanufactured ink is a genuine brand cartridge that has gone through one cycle of use. After use, the cartridge is recycled, acquired by a remanufacturing facility and put through a rigorous professional refurbishing process. During the refurbishing process the cartridge is disassembled, thoroughly cleaned and tested for quality. It's then carefully refilled, tested again and brought back to life. Buying remanufactured prevents one less cartridge from ending up in a landfill. A compatible cartridge is a brand new ink cartridge built by a manufacturer other than your printer. It's like buying the generic version of the genuine brand. Most are uniquely designed to differentiate from genuine cartridges. Despite any structural difference you may notice, the cartridge will still fit in your machine and print a full yield, just like the original brand.
Price Factors Many printer manufacturers follow the razor-and-blades business model which may result in higher priced genuine cartridges. Remanufactured ink is much cheaper than the original brand ink. It's far more cost effective to refurbish a previously used cartridge than create a new OEM from scratch. Compatible ink is much cheaper than the original brand. Compatible suppliers don't have to worry about the additional costs that hinder OEMs like new printers or firmware, which lets them keep prices low.
Quality Original cartridges work extremely well and are covered under a warranty by the printer manufacturer High quality remanufactured ink will match the quality of the original, but not all remanufactured ink is created equal. Make sure you buy from a reputable supplier in order to get the absolute best results. High quality compatible ink will match the quality of the original, but not all compatible ink is created equal. Make sure you buy from a reputable supplier in order to get the absolute best results.
What's the difference between ink and toner cartridges?
Ink Cartridges Toner Cartridges
Printer Type Work with inkjet printers Work with laser printers
Material Liquid ink Dry powder
How it works Inkjet printers use a series of nozzles that spray tiny drops of ink directly on the print suface Laser toner printers use static electricity and heat to bond dry toner powder to a page
Commonly used by Casual home users, small business and photographers Large businesses and schools
Number of Pages You Can Print A cartridge's page yield is the estimated number of pages you can print. Page yield is based on 5% page coverage. This means that the quoted page yield is based upon printed pages where only 5% of the page has been imprinted with ink. For example, a short memo has approximately 5% coverage. If you have a cartridge that has a yield of 500 pages, it can print 500 pages of that short memo. If you are printing letters, photos or graphics, your coverage will vary greatly and your page yield will drop significantly.
Cartridge Warranty and Shelf Life Most ink and toner cartridges include a warranty or "best by" date on their box. Remanufactured and compatible ink cartridges can last 12-18 months unopened, and toner cartridges can last up to 3 years.
Cartridge Care and Storage Only open a cartridge when you need it. Opened cartridges will eventually dry out, especially if the protective tape or clip has been removed. If you have an open ink cartridge around and would like to try and prevent it from drying out, place it nozzle side up in a plastic airtight tub. If your cartridge came with protective tape or a clip reapply both before storing. Place a damp cloth or paper towel in the tub, next to the cartridge and keep it stored in a cool, dark place.
