I received this product at no cost for review on my site. I chose to review the Mixture and Measure set because I thought it looked like it would be fun for Big Brother to play with. We could surely come up with some great science experiments to conduct with this. Little did I know when I ordered it the multitude of concepts I'll be able to teach my boys with this set.

For our first lesson we measured out equal amounts of water, dried beans, and cheerios and weighed them individually. Before weighing them I'd have Big Brother guess if he thought the item we were weighing weighed more, less, or the same as the item(s) previously weighed. It was really quite a simple lesson, but he had tons of fun and he learned a bit about: weight, estimation, greater than, less than, equal to, and volume.

Other skills that can be taught with the Mixture and Measure set include, but are not limited to: counting, measuring, conservation, addition, fractions, subtraction, cause and effect (as you teach various science, cooking, etc., projects).

I couldn't be more pleased with the Primary Science Mixture and Measure Set. I love the activity cards it come with–they'll be a big help on those days when I just plain lack creativity.

The set is definitely made with kids in mind, and is quite durable.

Great idea but

You need a lot of weight to make the scale move at all, so any activity with it doesn't work. Everything else was fun and easy.

Comments about Primary Science Mix & Measure Set:

I teach a class of eight KS1 children at an autism specific school. We were achieving so much in our cooking lessons, but I was certain that with tailored equipment the children could be more independent. I started to search the internet and finally found exactly what I wanted.

Our equipment was okay, but I felt certain that with the help of colour coded equipment I could help the students be more independent. I started looking and found the Primary Science Measuring set and immediately thought it would be ideal. I really liked the way the ½ cup looked like ½ the whole cup. You could put the four ¼ cups together to show a whole. The spoons were also thought out for visual learners. Being able to use colour and shape was ideal for my class and I have seen their confidence in being able to measure ingredients increase.

The class were thrilled with the new equipment. It was better than expected – really solid, chunky and I could tell it would last. I was able to use the spoon to dig out some quite solid margarine, which had broken my previous measuring spoons.

Since starting with this equipment 4 weeks ago my class have gained so much confidence in following visual recipes independently.

The set is helping them learn concepts such as fractions, measuring, following instructions, team work and they are always so proud knowing they have actually made the finished product themselves.

The children even enjoyed the washing up and when we added food colours it became a whole new sensory leaning session.

I also saw the potential in the boxes and they will soon be transformed into model farms.

The only things I would change in an ideal world:
1)I would prefer to have sets of the old style balance measuring scales with colour coded weights. I think these would be more visual and useable. We have not yet used the weighing scales that came with the sets and I'm not sure if we will.
2)I would make the 1/2 measures pink as a visual link with the Rainbow Fractions resources.

The set seems quite pricey, but we have put it through it's paces and used the equipment so much I think it's worth it (especially as it will be used by lots of children over time).

Learning Resources provided me with one set free of charge in exchange for my honest review. I tried and tested it and decided it was the right equipment so we ordered another 8 sets for our school.

My boys and I had a really great time with this set. It comes with a variety of sizes measuring cups and spoons, as well as a bowl. It's colorful and chunky, easier for little hands to hold and maneuver. My favorite part of the kit was the recipe cards that help kids create all kinds of fun things like mystery goo, trail mix, and more. It's something tangible they can touch and feel and work with, learning both visually and hands-on. Awesome set.

Comments about Primary Science Mix & Measure Set:

Learning Resources understands the importance of providing children the best tools for learning. Best of all, they know their educational toys must be fun or children won't play with them. This Primary Science Mix and Measure Set simply calls out to children. This box sat on my upper shelf for one day and I got at least 50 questions about it. Since I have a home daycare full of preschoolers, I had intended to have a whole day of planned activities with this product, but the children did not want to wait.

That natural curiosity is exactly what Learning Resources uses to fuel new product development. If this new 2012 learning toy is any indication of what's to come this year, I'm absolutely thrilled. There are three measuring spoons - a tablespoon, a teaspoon, and 1/2 teaspoon. Notice the yellow measuring spoon: it visually represents half of a teaspoon (the orange measuring spoon). There is a 1 cup measuring cup. Then there is also 1/2 cup measuring cup and two 1/4 cup measuring cups; the extra thought put into that is fabulous, so that children can see that those three pieces together make a full cup.

There is also a tall 2-cup pitcher a short 2-cup pitcher and a 4-cup bowl with a lid. This Mix and Measure Set also comes with a scale and 10 laminated activity cards with all kinds of activities and ideas for using these wonderful tools. I poured a bag of dry rice into a large bin and turned the kids loose to explore this new science kit.

They had so much fun pouring and scooping and measuring and weighing. They worked together, planning and discovering. They shared the tools, discussing the differences in the sizes. They even learned that a dustpan and handbroom are great for cleaning up small items. They asked me questions about the names of the different pieces and learned several new words. After about an hour of exploratory play, we had to clean up for snacktime, but they continued to talk about it well into the afternoon. This was also the first requested activity the next day. This Mix and Measure Set gets FIVE STARS!

Mix & Measure Set Fun for the Little One

            By Stephanie @AndTwinsMake5.com

            from Joliet, IL

Comments about Primary Science Mix & Measure Set:

PreSchoolers love to experiment and as long as you are able confine those little studies of theirs to "mommy" approved moments, it is all good!

On my approved list is the Primary Science Mix & Measure Set by Learning Resources. The twins love pouring, scooping, and measuring items like cereal with this set. It features a scale, a bowl, 3 self-standing spoons, and 6 unique cup designs that really help children visualize their quantities. I love that this set has enough options for my twins to both share in the fun.

Also included are a set of handy activity cards that guide children and parents through various processes including making mystery goo, puffy paint, slime and more.

Clean-up wasn't too bad either, a broom and dustpan took care of the cereal remnants on the floor and I popped the various other tools in the dishwasher with the exception of the scale.

Please note, I received this item for free in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

A Great for Kids to Delve into Science!

            By Connected2Christ Mommy

            from Oregon

Comments about Primary Science Mix & Measure Set:

The Primary Science Mix and Measure Set from Learning Resources contains a scale, a large bowl with a lid, 3 measuring spoons, 4 measuring cups, 2 liquid measuring cups, and 10 scientific activity cards. The set itself is very colorful making it enticing to children and the tools are shaped in a way that are perfect for little hands. The activity cards are a great way to get you and your child started in learning fun scientific things though you aren't limited to just that. Some of the activity cards you can find in this set include recipes for puff paint, slime, clay, bubbles, and more!

My daughter whom is nearly four year old really enjoyed using this set. I gave her the opportunity to play with it freely and explained to her what the names for the pieces included were. And then we opted to scientifically create and explore Mystery Goo and what fun that had been. She got to investigate and discover that when she put her had slowly into the mixture that it was all smooth but if she tried to pull her hand out quickly or punch the goo her hand would get stuck! She's been very eager since playing and learning with this set to explore the world of science again.

We really enjoy using the Primary Science Mix and Measure Set and are looking forward to trying more of the suggested projects found on the included activity cards. The only thing I wish was included in this set would be an apron or two because science can get a bit messy and maybe a little booklet in basic terms that mentions what exactly is going on with each of the projects included in scientific terms. Overall a great product and we highly recommend it!

My daughter is 2 1/2 and is just at the age where she can start playing with this set. She is practicing pouring water from one container to the next. I think the next step will be for us to introduce her to the concept of volume. Then we'll move on to the basics of measuring.

I see a great deal of potential in this set for getting a lot of use over the next 2-3 years. I highly recommend it!

            • Number of Pages & Shelf Life
            Cartridge Type
Genuine or OEM (Original) Cartridges Remanufactured Cartridges Compatible Cartridges
Description OEM stands for original equipment manufacturer, meaning the cartridge was made by the same company that made your printer. Original brand cartridges are very reliable and sometimes the only option if your printer is new to market or uncommon. Remanufactured ink is a genuine brand cartridge that has gone through one cycle of use. After use, the cartridge is recycled, acquired by a remanufacturing facility and put through a rigorous professional refurbishing process. During the refurbishing process the cartridge is disassembled, thoroughly cleaned and tested for quality. It's then carefully refilled, tested again and brought back to life. Buying remanufactured prevents one less cartridge from ending up in a landfill. A compatible cartridge is a brand new ink cartridge built by a manufacturer other than your printer. It's like buying the generic version of the genuine brand. Most are uniquely designed to differentiate from genuine cartridges. Despite any structural difference you may notice, the cartridge will still fit in your machine and print a full yield, just like the original brand.
Price Factors Many printer manufacturers follow the razor-and-blades business model which may result in higher priced genuine cartridges. Remanufactured ink is much cheaper than the original brand ink. It's far more cost effective to refurbish a previously used cartridge than create a new OEM from scratch. Compatible ink is much cheaper than the original brand. Compatible suppliers don't have to worry about the additional costs that hinder OEMs like new printers or firmware, which lets them keep prices low.
Quality Original cartridges work extremely well and are covered under a warranty by the printer manufacturer High quality remanufactured ink will match the quality of the original, but not all remanufactured ink is created equal. Make sure you buy from a reputable supplier in order to get the absolute best results. High quality compatible ink will match the quality of the original, but not all compatible ink is created equal. Make sure you buy from a reputable supplier in order to get the absolute best results.
What's the difference between ink and toner cartridges?
            Ink Cartridges Toner Cartridges
Printer Type Work with inkjet printers Work with laser printers
            Material Liquid ink Dry powder
How it works Inkjet printers use a series of nozzles that spray tiny drops of ink directly on the print suface Laser toner printers use static electricity and heat to bond dry toner powder to a page
Commonly used by Casual home users, small business and photographers Large businesses and schools
Number of Pages You Can Print A cartridge's page yield is the estimated number of pages you can print. Page yield is based on 5% page coverage. This means that the quoted page yield is based upon printed pages where only 5% of the page has been imprinted with ink. For example, a short memo has approximately 5% coverage. If you have a cartridge that has a yield of 500 pages, it can print 500 pages of that short memo. If you are printing letters, photos or graphics, your coverage will vary greatly and your page yield will drop significantly.
Cartridge Warranty and Shelf Life Most ink and toner cartridges include a warranty or "best by" date on their box. Remanufactured and compatible ink cartridges can last 12-18 months unopened, and toner cartridges can last up to 3 years.
Cartridge Care and Storage Only open a cartridge when you need it. Opened cartridges will eventually dry out, especially if the protective tape or clip has been removed. If you have an open ink cartridge around and would like to try and prevent it from drying out, place it nozzle side up in a plastic airtight tub. If your cartridge came with protective tape or a clip reapply both before storing. Place a damp cloth or paper towel in the tub, next to the cartridge and keep it stored in a cool, dark place.
