DIYBEAM-B- This is a 4 C cell LED flashlight and think of it as more of a lantern as it has a handle with the on-off-dim switch in the handle. This lantern has a nice feel and balance to it and has a good design. You can supposedly drop it up to 15 feet ( Impact resisting internal engineering) and it is water resistant (IPX-4) which means you can use it in the rain or splash situations, but might not work immersed in water.. The device is 5 1/2 inches by 5 inches high and 3 inches wide. Without the handle on top it is 3 inches high. The bottom is flat as is the butt and front where the light is. You could set it on the bottom (will shine horizontal) or the butt (will shine vertically) . It weighs less than 2 pounds. As mentioned the handle on the top has the on-off-dim switch. When you turn it on it is 150 lumens and hit it again for the dim switch and it is 50 lumens. The company claims on high beam it is useful for over 300 yards and in the dim mode almost 200 yards. The run time is 20 hours on full power 78 hours on the dim power with alkaline batteries (which are supplied), the company claims. The flashlight standards, however, say the run times are when the light intensity is down to only ten percent. So count on shorter run times. I think the light is very bright even blinding on “high beam. It has a lifetime warranty which Rayovac traditionally actually honors. Note the company calls this device “virtually indestructible. To change the batteries you screw off the head. It has an o-ring so it might be more water resistant than claimed. There are logos on the inside to show you how the batteries go. Also a logo to line up to properly screw the head back on. If you are not attentive, you could have problems changing the batteries and screwing the device back together. I think people will like this light because of its size, weight and brightness. Also the longevity of the batteries in use is another plus factor as is the guaranty. It has a nice feel to it. It will be useful as a home or car light either general purpose or emergency. It will be good for camping. You can make it into a room light by taking 3 business cards, cutting a 45 degree partial cut in two of them, inserting the third in the two slots and placing it on top of the light as it rest on its butt. Clever diy selvers will put tin foil or duct tape on the one reflecting card.

I bought years ago, live in Florida, only really used when necessary, worked great ! Have been using more lately for a reading lamp, I have replaced batteries, just recently only 1 tube will light up, so i replaced both bulbs, so disappointed that bulbs havent fixed problem, only 1 side will light up, enjoyed it so much when both bulbs would work at same time, it was great to use when it worked properly. I would really like to get a replacement, it does state it has a lifetime warranty.

Love them!

Comments about DIY3AAA-B Flashlight:

I've had two of these, one in 2 AA and one in 3AAA and both are bright and long lasting. I use it for inspections of paper and pulp machines. Cuts through steam fog and makes everything visible. I gave several of them to my customers and they also love them. The only thing I don't or didn't like about the 3AAA was the off switch that automatically switches to low power it took me a while to get used to the feature as I'd put it back in my holder with the low level light on. I'm used to it now and think about shutting it off when I'm through with it.

Poor quality and service

Comments about DIY3AAA-B Flashlight:

I purchased this 1 yr ago and placed in on a shelf. My power went out 2 days ago. I put the brand new batteries in the light and one of the tubes flickered and then went out. I turned the light off and then back on. The second tube flickered and went out. After that, they were both dead though the top light continued to work. I called customer service and they said they would replace the lamp but I had to cover the cost of sending it back. This would essentially double the cost of the lamp. Not interested in doing this and likely getting back another dysfunctional lamp.

I've owned a rayovac 3AAAled light flashlight for a while now and while I agree with everything said about this light it has stopped working and can't find any way to change the batteries, I have got both ends off, I know the three are encased in a small open holder creating a large battery look but can't seem to get out to replace any help???

Tough little light.. about time for a new revision

Comments about DIY3AAA-B Flashlight:

This versatile light keeps me from getting my bike lights stolen of my bike, as I take it off and put it in my pocket. I have been loyally buying them at about 1 a year.. although they take quite a bit of abuse, they are not indestructible.. my latest one just died.. (some kind of electrical failure: all front leds started working simultaneously, then stopped working altogether)..( Rayovac, it is time to build in a rechargeable battery with USB plug.. the power boost from some nice 3.7v Li-Ions could power a brighter main LED.. I would be happy to stress-test any new designs and give you feedback. Please get me in touch with your R&D team. Thanks in advance..)

Cartridge Comparison Guide
  • Cartridge Types
  • Ink & Toner Basics
  • Number of Pages & Shelf Life
Cartridge Type
Genuine or OEM (Original) Cartridges Remanufactured Cartridges Compatible Cartridges
Description OEM stands for original equipment manufacturer, meaning the cartridge was made by the same company that made your printer. Original brand cartridges are very reliable and sometimes the only option if your printer is new to market or uncommon. Remanufactured ink is a genuine brand cartridge that has gone through one cycle of use. After use, the cartridge is recycled, acquired by a remanufacturing facility and put through a rigorous professional refurbishing process. During the refurbishing process the cartridge is disassembled, thoroughly cleaned and tested for quality. It's then carefully refilled, tested again and brought back to life. Buying remanufactured prevents one less cartridge from ending up in a landfill. A compatible cartridge is a brand new ink cartridge built by a manufacturer other than your printer. It's like buying the generic version of the genuine brand. Most are uniquely designed to differentiate from genuine cartridges. Despite any structural difference you may notice, the cartridge will still fit in your machine and print a full yield, just like the original brand.
Price Factors Many printer manufacturers follow the razor-and-blades business model which may result in higher priced genuine cartridges. Remanufactured ink is much cheaper than the original brand ink. It's far more cost effective to refurbish a previously used cartridge than create a new OEM from scratch. Compatible ink is much cheaper than the original brand. Compatible suppliers don't have to worry about the additional costs that hinder OEMs like new printers or firmware, which lets them keep prices low.
Quality Original cartridges work extremely well and are covered under a warranty by the printer manufacturer High quality remanufactured ink will match the quality of the original, but not all remanufactured ink is created equal. Make sure you buy from a reputable supplier in order to get the absolute best results. High quality compatible ink will match the quality of the original, but not all compatible ink is created equal. Make sure you buy from a reputable supplier in order to get the absolute best results.
What's the difference between ink and toner cartridges?
Ink Cartridges Toner Cartridges
Printer Type Work with inkjet printers Work with laser printers
Material Liquid ink Dry powder
How it works Inkjet printers use a series of nozzles that spray tiny drops of ink directly on the print suface Laser toner printers use static electricity and heat to bond dry toner powder to a page
Commonly used by Casual home users, small business and photographers Large businesses and schools
Number of Pages You Can Print A cartridge's page yield is the estimated number of pages you can print. Page yield is based on 5% page coverage. This means that the quoted page yield is based upon printed pages where only 5% of the page has been imprinted with ink. For example, a short memo has approximately 5% coverage. If you have a cartridge that has a yield of 500 pages, it can print 500 pages of that short memo. If you are printing letters, photos or graphics, your coverage will vary greatly and your page yield will drop significantly.
Cartridge Warranty and Shelf Life Most ink and toner cartridges include a warranty or "best by" date on their box. Remanufactured and compatible ink cartridges can last 12-18 months unopened, and toner cartridges can last up to 3 years.
Cartridge Care and Storage Only open a cartridge when you need it. Opened cartridges will eventually dry out, especially if the protective tape or clip has been removed. If you have an open ink cartridge around and would like to try and prevent it from drying out, place it nozzle side up in a plastic airtight tub. If your cartridge came with protective tape or a clip reapply both before storing. Place a damp cloth or paper towel in the tub, next to the cartridge and keep it stored in a cool, dark place.
