I originally purchased a smart touch compact stapler which barely lasted a week. This was to replace that one - thinking I just got a defect and didn't want to bother returning and dealing with that. I'm so glad I purchased this one new-in-box at a discount supply store on sale so it wasn't that big of a waste of money. Honestly after the terrible experience on the first one I didn't want to pay full price for another. I was able to get a whole hour or two of use before it became a very nice looking paper weight on my workstation. As a pharmacist I probably staple about 400 bags a day and need something reliable and comfortable. This stapler couldn't even survive half of my shift at 2-4 sheets per use. That's right it worked for about 200 staples! I spent a good amount of time banging this thing on the counter to unjam it during those uses - my coworkers thought I was going crazy smashing it to get a staple unclogged every other prescription I filled!! No - I was just using the worst quality stapler ever!! On a positive note it is still in one piece which is quite amazing considering the amount of banging around it survived during numerous attempts to unjam it. Save yourself the frustration - buy anything but this stapler!

Horrible

By PT123

Comments about Swingline SmartTouch Flat Clinch Full Size Stapler:

Swingline should step up and replace these defective staplers. Constantly have to open where staples are loaded, unless the hair trigger pops it open, and reclose. Then only good for one staple, and have to do it all over again.

Great for the first couple uses

By sfairRN

Comments about Swingline SmartTouch Flat Clinch Full Size Stapler:

This stapler was great...keyword WAS! After the first few uses it jammed. Removed the jam and used again. It only stapled once before jamming again and after weeks of going back and trying to use it again, it still does not work. Definitely not the quality I expected for Swingline.

Jammed and cannot get the drawer to open

By Sarah26

from College Station, Tx

Comments about Swingline SmartTouch Flat Clinch Full Size Stapler:

I really liked this stapler the few times I used it. It really just sits on my desk and now it is jammed, will not staple, and the drawer will not open. Worked great when it actually worked. Seems odd it is having this problem with the little use it got.

Stapler keeps jamming and you cannot get the back to open to fix it. This particular stapler should be discontinued.

Jams, Won't open, Not easy movement stapler

By Falcongirl2u

Comments about Swingline SmartTouch Flat Clinch Full Size Stapler:

I've been buying Swingline staplers for as long as I can remember. They last forever, I have some staplers that are 14 years old. But, I used a different brand of stapler at a client and it stapled so fast, I couldn't believe it! So I went out and bought the other brand, but it just didn't work as well and I read reviews that the other stapler went down hill. So I returned it and bought the Swingline Smart Touch. From day one, the staple holder does not just "pop out" and when it does pop out about 1/2", it creaks and slides hard. After putting more staples in, they keep getting caught in the back of the staple holder so it seems like it's always out of staples. This is also not an easy touch stapler and it's certainly not smart.

Light to touch but won't last very long

By MChris

from Marietta, GA, USA

Comments about Swingline SmartTouch Flat Clinch Full Size Stapler:

This stapler is light to the touch and can handle 10-15 pages or more pretty easily. However, it will not last you very long. Mine broke before the year was up. It will not hold 1 complete stick of staples so you end up with pieces you have to load. It will not staple until the end of the partial stick you loaded so you have to reload it frequently. I would suggest looking for something else. I had to revert to the Swingline I have had for 25 years. It is a little heavier and bulkier but gets the job done for now.

it quit working

By NotHappy

from Ohio

Comments about Swingline SmartTouch Flat Clinch Full Size Stapler:

I got it yesterday and it worked great for the first day but it was a little tricky finding out how to put the staples in. would be a lot better with instructions. Today I get to work and it isn't working at all. I tried moving the staples around in it and they won't budge. There are staples stuck in the front part of the stapler. I'm taking it back today.

Horrible Product

By mjr5760

from Jersey City, NJ, USA

Comments about Swingline SmartTouch Flat Clinch Full Size Stapler:

I brought one and it jammed on the first try. I returned it and replaced the product, thinking it was just a bum stapler. The second one won't open, and I read the directions on line. You didn't even include directions. This is a horrible product. You should get rid of it

Dead on Arrival

By avee8or

from New England, USA

Comments about Swingline SmartTouch Flat Clinch Full Size Stapler:

The stapler only opens 1/4 inch to load staples---I cannot figure out why it is jammed. This is fresh out of the box. I have spent more time online researching the problem than I did in buying the stapler. It appears to be a beautifully designed paper weight, useless for stapling. I am very disappointed.

Cartridge Comparison Guide
  • Cartridge Types
  • Ink & Toner Basics
  • Number of Pages & Shelf Life
Cartridge Type
Genuine or OEM (Original) Cartridges Remanufactured Cartridges Compatible Cartridges
Description OEM stands for original equipment manufacturer, meaning the cartridge was made by the same company that made your printer. Original brand cartridges are very reliable and sometimes the only option if your printer is new to market or uncommon. Remanufactured ink is a genuine brand cartridge that has gone through one cycle of use. After use, the cartridge is recycled, acquired by a remanufacturing facility and put through a rigorous professional refurbishing process. During the refurbishing process the cartridge is disassembled, thoroughly cleaned and tested for quality. It's then carefully refilled, tested again and brought back to life. Buying remanufactured prevents one less cartridge from ending up in a landfill. A compatible cartridge is a brand new ink cartridge built by a manufacturer other than your printer. It's like buying the generic version of the genuine brand. Most are uniquely designed to differentiate from genuine cartridges. Despite any structural difference you may notice, the cartridge will still fit in your machine and print a full yield, just like the original brand.
Price Factors Many printer manufacturers follow the razor-and-blades business model which may result in higher priced genuine cartridges. Remanufactured ink is much cheaper than the original brand ink. It's far more cost effective to refurbish a previously used cartridge than create a new OEM from scratch. Compatible ink is much cheaper than the original brand. Compatible suppliers don't have to worry about the additional costs that hinder OEMs like new printers or firmware, which lets them keep prices low.
Quality Original cartridges work extremely well and are covered under a warranty by the printer manufacturer High quality remanufactured ink will match the quality of the original, but not all remanufactured ink is created equal. Make sure you buy from a reputable supplier in order to get the absolute best results. High quality compatible ink will match the quality of the original, but not all compatible ink is created equal. Make sure you buy from a reputable supplier in order to get the absolute best results.
What's the difference between ink and toner cartridges?
Ink Cartridges Toner Cartridges
Printer Type Work with inkjet printers Work with laser printers
Material Liquid ink Dry powder
How it works Inkjet printers use a series of nozzles that spray tiny drops of ink directly on the print suface Laser toner printers use static electricity and heat to bond dry toner powder to a page
Commonly used by Casual home users, small business and photographers Large businesses and schools
Number of Pages You Can Print A cartridge's page yield is the estimated number of pages you can print. Page yield is based on 5% page coverage. This means that the quoted page yield is based upon printed pages where only 5% of the page has been imprinted with ink. For example, a short memo has approximately 5% coverage. If you have a cartridge that has a yield of 500 pages, it can print 500 pages of that short memo. If you are printing letters, photos or graphics, your coverage will vary greatly and your page yield will drop significantly.
Cartridge Warranty and Shelf Life Most ink and toner cartridges include a warranty or "best by" date on their box. Remanufactured and compatible ink cartridges can last 12-18 months unopened, and toner cartridges can last up to 3 years.
Cartridge Care and Storage Only open a cartridge when you need it. Opened cartridges will eventually dry out, especially if the protective tape or clip has been removed. If you have an open ink cartridge around and would like to try and prevent it from drying out, place it nozzle side up in a plastic airtight tub. If your cartridge came with protective tape or a clip reapply both before storing. Place a damp cloth or paper towel in the tub, next to the cartridge and keep it stored in a cool, dark place.
