Best Home Office Printer

Epson WorkForce Pro WF-3820Buy on Amazon

The best printer for home office printing is the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-3820, a compact inkjet that delivers fast print speeds and exceptional print quality thanks to Epson’s Precision Core Technology. Like all the printers on our list, this printer is an all-in-one, which means it can print, copy and scan.  A 2.7” color touch screen makes navigation a breeze and an automatic duplexer keeps you printing uninterrupted without the hassle of manually feeding pages to print on both sides.  The paper tray comfortably holds up to half a ream of paper and supports a range of paper sizes.

Ink cartridges for the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-3820 printer are more expensive than the ink tank printers listed here but they still offer a decent yield for home printer users that print occasionally.

To get the most value for your money, we recommend going with the high yield 822XL option, which lasts longer and prints up to 1,100 pages per cartridge. But for the most savings, we recommend printing with compatible cartridges for the Epson WF-3820 (find them here). Ink cartridge replacements by LD Products are a practical and reliable solution to pricey Epson 822 and 822XL cartridges. All LD compatible alternatives are backed by a lifetime guarantee.

Best Epson EcoTank Printers

EcoTank printers were a big deal when the company rolled out their first model in 2015.  As the first ink tank printer released by a major printer brand, Epson introduced a new way of printing to the masses.  Competitors like Canon and HP came out with their own ink tank printers soon after but even now, six years later, Epson still has the most versatile ink tank line up around.

If you’ve seen any of the EcoTank ads you know their main tagline is “cartridge free printing”. Instead of using ink cartridges to print, EcoTank printers rely on ink bottles and a refillable ink tank system.  Similar to filling up your car with gas, when a specific color is low in the tank, all you need to do is fill it up and you can continue printing.  The best thing about these printers is how affordable they make it to print.  Each ink bottle contains enough ink to print thousands of pages so not only are you printing cartridge-free, but you are printing guilt-free too.

We picked three of the very best EcoTank printers for this article – an EcoTank photo printer that’s designed specifically for creatives, a business ready EcoTank that gives most color laser printers a run for their money and a budget friendly EcoTank that is a great fit for the average home printer user.

Best Epson EcoTank for Photos

Epson EcoTank Photo ET-8500Buy on Amazon

After years of anticipation (and customer requests) Epson finally released a dedicated EcoTank photo printer in 2022.  While all EcoTanks are capable of printing great photos, this printer is a cut above the rest, delivering lab-quality results for creatives and photographers.  With 6 generously filled ink bottles, including a pigment-black for text and 5 dye-based colors in photo-black, cyan, magenta and yellow, you can print 4″x6″ photos for about 4 cents a piece – it’s like having your own Target Photo Center at home!  It can handle a variety of other media too, like cardstock, CDs / DVDs and premium art papers.

The printer is expensive but if you do A LOT of photo printing, operating costs are much cheaper than your standard inkjet printer and will offset that high initial price point over time.  If you are looking for low operating costs without the high printer price, check out the budget-friendly EcoTank section further down the page.  You won’t get the same depth of color since it only uses 4 ink bottles instead of 6, but it’s a solid option for casual photo printing.

Best Epson EcoTank for Small Business

Epson EcoTank Pro ET-5150Buy on Amazon

Offices with high color print volumes will love the savings that they get printing with the Epson EcoTank Pro ET-5150.  If you are looking for a cheaper alternative to your color laser printer, this printer is a worthy contender.  Featuring print speeds of up to 17 ppm, automatic 2-sided printing, and a 35-sheet automatic document feeder, it has everything to keep your office running smoothly.  The only drawback is the lack of a fax option – you’ll need the ET-5170 to get that. The printer also comes with a myriad of connectivity options, including wireless, ethernet and high-speed USB.

While the printer itself is pricey, the long term cost savings you get with the ink bottles make the high upfront cost easier to swallow.  It uses four Epson 542 pigment-based ink bottles, with the black ink bottle printing up to 7,000 pages and the cyan, magenta and yellow bottles printing 6,000 pages each.  Epson sells the black ink bottle for $29.99 and the color ink bottles for $23.79.  Compare that to the price of almost any popular original color toner cartridge, which generally range in cost anywhere between $50-$200, depending on the printer, the savings are undeniable.

If you want to save even more, definitely consider using compatible Epson ink bottles from LD Products are a great way to save even more and will be available for this printer series soon.  We will keep this article up to date!

Best Budget Epson EcoTank Printer

Copying and scanning come standard, plus wireless connectivity options  make it easy to print directly from your smartphone.

The stars of the show are of course the ink bottles: four Epson 502 ink bottles include enough ink to print up to 7,500 pages in black and 6,000 color pages.  The cost for ink bottle refills can still stack up so for more budget-friendly options, take advantage of more affordable compatible ink refill bottles from LD Products.  Get the black ink bottle for just $9.99 and the color ink bottles for $9.99 each!

  • I was very content with the Epson ET printer reviews. However, I noticed the ET 8550, 7700 and 7750 were left out with not even a mention. One of the best features I like from Epson (since I’ve only owned Epson printers), is the new grey ink addition. I feel something big should be said about these missing printers and their features.

    • Thanks for the feedback John and for the tip about the gray ink bottle! We feature the ET-8500 and the ET-7750 on our best ink tank printer article here: https://www.ldproducts.com/blog/best-ink-tank-printers-of-2018/

And we will look into adding one those models to this article as well!!

  • Can I use my epson.L120 for suplimation
