HP® releases a new firmware update to remedy their recent firmware change.

A firmware update released by HP® last month stopped non-HP cartridges from working in a number of their OfficeJet®, OfficeJet Pro® and OfficeJet Pro X® printers.  So many customers were unhappy with the unexpected update that HP responded, announcing that they would be releasing a new firmware update to remedy the issue.  The new update finally arrived on October 12th and LD Products can confirm that it does, once again, let you use non-HP cartridges in a previously affected printer.  The update is only available on HP’s website and must be downloaded and installed by the user in order to work.  If your printer was affected and you want to continue using non-HP cartridges, visit the HP Customer Support page to find and download the corresponding update.

LD Products successfully ran the new update on an affected HP OfficeJet Pro 6830.  If you’ve downloaded the appropriate update for your printer, follow these steps to properly install it on your machine:

  1. Turn on your printer and make sure it is connected. If the following error shows up on the printer’s display, press “OK” to close it.Step 1
  2. Run the downloaded firmware file. It will search for the printer and list it by its serial number.step-2
  3. Select the checkbox next to the printer and click “Update”. This will start the update process…step-3
  4. The printer’s screen will show the update in progress…step-4
  5. The printer will restart once the update is finished and confirm that the installation is complete.step-5
  6. A notice will display stating that the installed cartridge is a non-HP cartridge. This is normal and you can bypass this message by pressing “OK”.step-6
  7. The ink levels will properly display on your printer and you should be able to print properly.step-7

  • I have an hp office jet pro plus 8600
I’m getting an “incompatible cartridge” error. I AM using a new genuine replacement cartridge. I have actually tried 3 new cartridges. Same error.

  • I also have an HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911g and need to know if my model was affected by the dynamic security update. My Product Number is CM750A and the firmware version installed is CLP1CN1545AR. I took a look at the link posted above https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-officejet-pro-8620-e-all-in-one-printer-series/5367611/document/c05308850/ when someone asked about the 8600 series but I could not find my model in the list… only 8610 and above. Please provide me with direction on how to proceed if mine was affected as I am looking to purchase ink cartridges that could be affected by the update. What is the firmware version I need to find or have installed in order to use cartridges that do not have the chip installed?
