I bought this cooler for cold liquid storage while working outside in the Texas heat. It does a great job keeping the ice all day long. Of course, it lasts longer if you keep it in the shade. + The white interior doesn't stain easily when filled with colored liquids (red or blue gatorade). + The rubber button on the nozzle is good quality and has endured the Texas heat and abusive use. + It is easy to clean. No hard to get to nooks or crannies. + Built in handles are strong, comfortable, and have no moving parts to break or malfunction. Two complaints: 1. It doesn't have a vent, so you'll need to unscrew the lid some to allow air inside to remove the suction (vacuum) in order to pour out liquid. 2(A). When you unscrew the lid, the insulating capacity of the cooler is greatly reduced. I'd say the ice lasts half the time it would if the lid was kept tight. 2(B). If you don't remember to close the lid tightly at the end of the day it will blow off if riding in the back of your truck on the way home. - There is no lanyard to keep the lid attached to the body of the cooler. Suggestions to Rubbermaid: Add a one way, sealed vent (to allow air in when a suction occurs) on the lid and also include a lanyard on the lid. The lanyard could perhaps attach at the lid as part of the vent hole, and maybe tie onto one of the handles on the cooler body. I own two of these coolers and am happy with their performance. I own two because the lid blew off the first one and I was in a hurry to use the cooler and had to buy another one because the lids are only available through Rubbermaid and I didn't have the time to wait for the replacement to arrive. The customer service reps at rubbermaid are wonderful and went above and beyond to make sure I was happy when ordering replacement lids.

Replacement parts and terrific features

Comments about Rubbermaid 5-Gallon Water Cooler:

I bought this product a long time ago and love it and use it all summer long. When the spigot began to leak I was worried that I was not going to be able to use it. Calling Consumer Service Dept. was wonderful and Jasmine the representative was helpful beyond belief.

A Life Saver!

By KiwiCath

Comments about Rubbermaid 5-Gallon Water Cooler:

Brought this whilst living in Texas and filled for stormy weather [pumped own water] then when I immigrated to New Zealand brought many Rubbermaid items with me. This container [along with several smaller RM ones]was a lifesaver following a major earthquake in Feb 2011 when our city was devastated . We lost sewer, electricity and water. Tankers were brought in so we could fill containers - this was when it came into it's own! My RB coolers saved our frozen goods for several days so we didn't have to cook everything at once [on the bbq].

Lid Issues

By mike4333

Comments about Rubbermaid 5-Gallon Water Cooler:

Awesome all round cooler except for one thing. The lid. It has blown off multiple times on my travels and was lucky enough to find it every time except the last time! Now looking for new lid. This seems to be a problem for more than just me after reading these reviews.

Same issue as many others, not leak proof :(

By jarom1976

from Boise, ID, United States

Comments about Rubbermaid 5-Gallon Water Cooler:

I love the cooler itself, and hate how much it leaks. I often will wrap it with several beach towels when we go on a trip and they are completely wet by the time we get there. Have you considered designing a retro-fit rubber ring that people could buy to make it leak-proof? I would buy one in an instant if you did.

Does the job-poor quality

By HBGuy

from TN, United States

Comments about Rubbermaid 5-Gallon Water Cooler:

Received the product and tested with water. Unfortunately, the spigot was cross-threaded on when it was assembled and it leaked horribly. Luckily, I had a spare and was able to fix the issue. Would have expected better quality for this price.

Leaks

By puzzled8

from Houston, TX, United States

Comments about Rubbermaid 5-Gallon Water Cooler:

Shocked to find that the lid does not seal to prevent leaks. What good is a cooler if you can't keep the liquid inside? A screw top lid would be ideal if it actually sealed the cooler. I should have looked up the reviews before purchasing one. I'm taking this back to the store to return it.

Cartridge Comparison Guide
  • Cartridge Types
  • Ink & Toner Basics
  • Number of Pages & Shelf Life
Cartridge Type
Genuine or OEM (Original) Cartridges Remanufactured Cartridges Compatible Cartridges
Description OEM stands for original equipment manufacturer, meaning the cartridge was made by the same company that made your printer. Original brand cartridges are very reliable and sometimes the only option if your printer is new to market or uncommon. Remanufactured ink is a genuine brand cartridge that has gone through one cycle of use. After use, the cartridge is recycled, acquired by a remanufacturing facility and put through a rigorous professional refurbishing process. During the refurbishing process the cartridge is disassembled, thoroughly cleaned and tested for quality. It's then carefully refilled, tested again and brought back to life. Buying remanufactured prevents one less cartridge from ending up in a landfill. A compatible cartridge is a brand new ink cartridge built by a manufacturer other than your printer. It's like buying the generic version of the genuine brand. Most are uniquely designed to differentiate from genuine cartridges. Despite any structural difference you may notice, the cartridge will still fit in your machine and print a full yield, just like the original brand.
Price Factors Many printer manufacturers follow the razor-and-blades business model which may result in higher priced genuine cartridges. Remanufactured ink is much cheaper than the original brand ink. It's far more cost effective to refurbish a previously used cartridge than create a new OEM from scratch. Compatible ink is much cheaper than the original brand. Compatible suppliers don't have to worry about the additional costs that hinder OEMs like new printers or firmware, which lets them keep prices low.
Quality Original cartridges work extremely well and are covered under a warranty by the printer manufacturer High quality remanufactured ink will match the quality of the original, but not all remanufactured ink is created equal. Make sure you buy from a reputable supplier in order to get the absolute best results. High quality compatible ink will match the quality of the original, but not all compatible ink is created equal. Make sure you buy from a reputable supplier in order to get the absolute best results.
What's the difference between ink and toner cartridges?
Ink Cartridges Toner Cartridges
Printer Type Work with inkjet printers Work with laser printers
Material Liquid ink Dry powder
How it works Inkjet printers use a series of nozzles that spray tiny drops of ink directly on the print suface Laser toner printers use static electricity and heat to bond dry toner powder to a page
Commonly used by Casual home users, small business and photographers Large businesses and schools
Number of Pages You Can Print A cartridge's page yield is the estimated number of pages you can print. Page yield is based on 5% page coverage. This means that the quoted page yield is based upon printed pages where only 5% of the page has been imprinted with ink. For example, a short memo has approximately 5% coverage. If you have a cartridge that has a yield of 500 pages, it can print 500 pages of that short memo. If you are printing letters, photos or graphics, your coverage will vary greatly and your page yield will drop significantly.
Cartridge Warranty and Shelf Life Most ink and toner cartridges include a warranty or "best by" date on their box. Remanufactured and compatible ink cartridges can last 12-18 months unopened, and toner cartridges can last up to 3 years.
Cartridge Care and Storage Only open a cartridge when you need it. Opened cartridges will eventually dry out, especially if the protective tape or clip has been removed. If you have an open ink cartridge around and would like to try and prevent it from drying out, place it nozzle side up in a plastic airtight tub. If your cartridge came with protective tape or a clip reapply both before storing. Place a damp cloth or paper towel in the tub, next to the cartridge and keep it stored in a cool, dark place.
