What ink does HP 6960 use?
The OfficeJet Pro 6960 printer uses HP 902 ink cartridges. HP 902 cartridges come in 4 colors: cyan, magenta, yellow, and black. HP 902 black and each of the color cartridges come in standard and high yield XL sizes. You can also use the extra high yield black HP 906XL ink cartridge if you print with a lot of black.
Aftermarket HP 902 and 902XL cartridges fit perfectly in the OfficeJet 6960 printer and work just like an original HP cartridge.
What's an HP 902XL cartridge?
An HP 902XL is simply the high yield version of a standard HP 902. High yield means the cartridge contains more ink so it prints more pages and lasts longer than a regular cartridge. The high yield HP 902XL black is a larger cartridge than a standard 902 black. It will, however, still fit the same slot as the standard 902. High yield 902XL color cartridges are the same size as standard color 902 cartridges.
Aftermarket HP 902XL cartridges print the same number of pages as original HP cartridges. These non-OEM cartridges should fit in the same slot as an OEM high yield HP 902XL cartridge.
How do I change the ink in my HP OfficeJet 6960?
Changing cartridges in the OfficeJet 6960 is fairly easy and straightforward.
1. Simply lift the scanner unit.
2. Wait for printhead holding all the cartridges to center.
3. On the ink cartridge you want to replace, push the tab inwards to release it and then pull up.
4. Remove the old cartridge and set aside for recycling.
5. Unwrap new HP 902 cartridge. Remove the plastic strip protecting the contacts.
6. Slide new cartridge into the slot vacated by the old cartridge.
7. Push down gently till it clicks into place.
8. Close the scanner unit.
9. Wait a few seconds for printer to recognize new cartridge.
10. You are now ready to print.
