How to Save on Canon Toner Cartridges
Replacing the cartridges in your Canon printer can be expensive, but it doesn’t have to be! You can save a bundle when you make the switch to LD Products brand compatible cartridges and in this quick guide, we will show you how. LD brand compatible cartridges are a low cost alternative to the original Canon brand, offering comparable print quality at a fraction of the cost. Here, we review the cost savings of five popular Canon cartridges and break down how page yield and cost per page help determine cartridge value.
Two important printing factors can help consumers figure out the value of a particular cartridge series: page yield and cost per page. Page yield is the approximate number of printed pages provided by a cartridge. With it, you can estimate how long a cartridge will last and whether or not a certain cartridge makes sense for your printing needs. This yield is based on a 5% page coverage, or pages where 5% of the pages is covered with toner. For instance, a Canon 137 toner cartridge has a page yield of 2,400 pages. Given the page yield coverage rule, this cartridge can print approximately 2,400 pages at 5% coverage. 5% page coverage is comparable to printing out a short paragraph or email, so if you print something lengthier like a full page document, the number of prints you’ll get from that cartridge will dramatically decrease. Since everyone’s printing habits are different, it can be difficult to know exactly how pages you will get out of a cartridge, but page yield offers a solid starting point.
Cost per page determines how much it costs to print a particular page. This cost is an approximation, just like page yield, but the math behind it is simple. To calculate, all you need to do is divide the page yield by the cost per page. For example, the Canon 045H black toner cartridge prints 2,800 pages and an original toner costs $102.99*. After a bit of math, you get a cost of 3.6 cents per page. LD brand compatible printer cartridges are much more affordable, selling for just $28.99 at a cost of 1 cent per page.
