What ink does HP 4512 use?
The ENVY 4512 inkjet printer uses 1 black and 1 tricolor HP 63 ink cartridge every time it prints. Both cartridges are needed for your printer to work. You need a color cartridge installed in your printer even if you're only going to print in monochrome.
How many pages can an HP 63 print?
A standard HP 63 black ink cartridge prints 190 pages, while the HP 63XL high yield black ink cartridge prints 480 pages. A standard tricolor HP 63 prints 165 pages, a tricolor high yield HP 63XL cartridge prints 330 pages.
These numbers are based on ISO standards but the real number of pages each cartridge can print will depend on what you print and how often you print. More frequent printing will drain your cartridges more, less frequent printing will lengthen the lifetime of your cartridges.
What's the difference between an HP 63 and 63XL?
The HP 63 is a standard cartridge; the HP 63XL is the high yield version of the standard 63 cartridge. A high yield ink cartridge is usually the same physical size as a standard cartridge but contains more ink volume inside so it prints more than a standard ink cartridge. High yield cartridges fit in the same slot in your printer as the standard cartridge. Installation instructions are also the same.
How do I change the ink in my HP Envy 4512?
1. Lift the top of the printer (scanner unit).
2. Press down gently on the empty cartridge to release it. Pull empty cartridge and put it aside for recycling.
3. Remove packaging from new HP 63 ink cartridge. Make sure you remove the plastic tape to expose the contacts / nozzles of the cartridge. Your printer will prompt an error message if you touch the contacts.
4. Slide the new HP 63 into the slot where the empty HP 63 used to be. Push down gently until you hear a click.
5. Close the top of the printer. Your printer should take a few moments to identify the cartridge. When the soft noise inside your printer stops, you should be ready to print.
